Word has a built-in Work Menu, a persistent menu that acts like a Favorites menu for files that you use frequently. Like Word's Work Menu, this add-in installs a Work Menu that allows you to add and delete shortcuts to files. Unlike Word's Work Menu, this add-in has an feature that allows you to reorder the menu, change the shortcut name and the file path and name.
Download the add-in (.xla file) (zip file). THIS IS A BETA ADD-IN. While I've done testing with MacXL and WinXL03, it may contain bugs that impair its performance or crash XL. Use at your own risk. Please send comments to jemcgimpsey@mvps.org.
Notes: b0.81 is unprotected, and restructures the code and breaks it up into modules for easier troubleshooting.
New features:
- Change grouping of files - e.g., every Nth file, or set manually.
- Added a feature to toggle running AutoMacros.
Reported bugs in b0.8:
- Crash in non-English versions of XL.
Suggested improvements not implemented (yet):
- Validation - allow mass removal/relinking to files no longer in their original location.
Unzip the file and place the add-in in a convenient place, then use Tools/Add-ins... to browse to and install the add-in. Alternatively, place the add-in in your XLStart directory to automatically install it on startup.
To add an item to the menu, choose Add Item from the Work menu. The file must be saved first.
